Length Guard replacements

Love my Brio Beardscape clippers and disheartened when I broke a couple of the Length Guards. Went to the brio website and ordered an entire set of replacements at a very reasonable price! So happy now! Jim O.

Total garbage

The standard depth guards are total garbage. They are difficult to attach to the trimmer. The guard must be placed just so in order to get the correct connection. Beyond that, they're not at all well made. The edge of the guards that goes against your skin has sharp, unfinished plastic protrusions that scrape and cut your face. I've tried removing them but to no avail.

The trimmer itself seems well made. The zero clearance blade definitely trims very closely without nicking. The only observation is that the length adjustment does not move easily to a shorter length simply by pushing down the lock button. It needs two hands.

Hello, David! Thanks for your review. I'm so sorry that the guards are causing so much trouble! They can be a bit finnicky at first, but they're actually really easy to attach once you become used to them. The guards shouldn't be sharp like that though, so it's likely that your guards were just not smoothed down enough at the factory. I did also want to mention that the guards will not attach to the Zero Blade, they are not compatible (just in case that's what's going on here). Regarding the micro adjuster - You do have to press the little button when you move it down from 1.0mm, but there is no need to push it while moving your micro-adjuster up from 1.9mm (this should help, and you shouldn't need to use two hands). It does look like we have already helped you in a separate thread, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at support@briopg.com if anything else comes up.

Cheap plastic guards break easily

I purchased two of these replacement guards in the same size because I keep my beard the same length. I really don’t understand how everybody doesn’t have this problem: the guards break extremely easily. After the first guard that came with my new trimmer broke almost immediately, I thought I could just be very careful moving forward and get a couple of replacements. So I put the first replacement on and simply never removed it for over a month. No problems. I removed the guard once for cleaning and oiling, and one of the cheap tabs broke off literally the second time I ever tried to put it on. And I was being as careful as I could at this point because I knew they were easily breakable. So I put on the second replacement that I had already purchased in anticipation of this problem. It broke within a week. And it isn’t just the tabs on the side that are problematic; the guards are very flexible, thin, and feel cheap. It’s a shame because I really like everything else about my trimmer. But I can’t jus keep buying replacements forever either. If I knew this would be such a problem, I might have purchased the magnetic guards immediately. I really hope that Brio will phase out the plastic ones and just make the magnetic guards the standard for everything. But with shipping, these two replacements were $18. Not a major expense, but what am I supposed to do moving forward? At this rate, I could easily go through 8 to 10 guards per year, and that’s just silly.

Hello, Kenneth! Thanks for reaching out through your review. I'm so sorry to hear you've had so much trouble with our guards! We have found that if the guards are stored on the trimmer, it puts them under constant stress and makes them more susceptible to breaking. It's best to store the guards off of the trimmer, somewhere safe in a case or drawer. We do plan on making the magnetic guards the standard moving forward, but that's a long ways off. We do cover broken guards under a two-year warranty, and we're also really flexible about sending guard replacements if it's been longer than two years. I'll reach out to you directly to help out with either more guards, or possibly a refund for the ones you already purchased.

Broke too easily

And now I have no way to use my trimmer and can’t buy a replacement part in Australia. My shaver is now useless!

Guards seem fragile

I bought my version 1 years ago and made the mistake of travelling with it. Broke on my first flight and since I only use one size this became me neck trimmer and I had to resort to other cheaper products that didn’t do as good a job but the guards are made tough. Wish I investigated the warranty better to see they are covered in the first 2 years. The trimmer itself is excellent and built strong and feels well made.

Hello, Richard! I'm sorry to hear about the trouble with the guards, but so glad to hear the trimmer is serving you well. We do cover broken guards under a two-year warranty and we can usually be pretty flexible about small items like guards if it's been more than two years. I'll be reaching out to you directly to help!
